Irish Fest Volunteers. Meeting Musical Friends

If there’s a bigger or better Irish Festival than Milwaukee anywhere in the world I would love to see it! 4000 volunteers is an astounding number and the efficiency and skill with which they operate has to be seen to be believed. Congratulations to everyone of them.

A big thank you to the many people who phoned, e mailed and called on hearing of Tommy’s passing, it meant an awful lot and I passed them all on to his family. It seems that the only time we meet up with many of our fellow performers these days is at a wake. This was no exception. I met many old and dear friends at the reception after the burial in Dover. There are too many to name, but it was a tonic to see them all again. Such a huge musical family!

The Ninepenny Fiddle

The Ninepenny Fiddle, Tom’s new book and accompanying CD of Irish songs for children is the first ever of it’s type! There has never been a fully illustrated, full colour children’s song-book of words and music with a CD of all the songs in the book! Now for the first time children, parents and teachers can enjoy all the fun of singing along with the CD while following the words, music and pictures in the book!

It is a great resource in the classroom, at home or in the car and should be availed of by anyone with an interest in children’s music, literature, reading and the combined joys of singing and learning! The Ninepenny Fiddle is the first in a series of song-books for children. Look out for the others in the not too distant future!

Milwaukee Irish Fest

Tom is delighted to have written the theme song for the 25th anniversary of the world famous Milwaukee Irish Fest. Considered to be the biggest Irish music festival in the world, the 2005 festival saw upwards of 135,000 people over the third weekend of August. The president of Ireland, Mary Mc Aleese opened the event this year and Tom was honoured to perform the song, called “Milwaukee 25″ at both the opening and the closing of the Irish musical extravaganza. At the closing, which is known as the ‘Scattering’, Tom sand the song onstage with a veritable who’s who of the Irish folk music world to an audience of 10,000! They all left with the chorus of “Milwaukee, the word makes you smile, You’d think you were in Erin’s Isle…” on their lips and hearts! The song is also included in the Milwaukee Irish Fest’s 25th anniversary CD, “Silver”, a compilation of the many performers who have graced the stages of Irish Fest for a quarter of a century.
